Sharing stories of Vietnamese Students – From school seats to businesses

After 7 years of graduation, now when I am just one of the few people of my course, according to the “Oil career” and myself is now the executive of the business operating in the field of cars. Every year, I still interview students who have just graduated from school, look at the present, my heart never stops feeling pain.

Today I came back to visit a university that I have loved and have the highest quality of training in Ho Chi Minh City as well as in Vietnam, bringing with me the desire to find the answer “Good methods to help students change their perception of learning while sitting in school chairs ”.

A current reality situation Enterprises blame the school to train students to leave the university without reality, the ability to perform practical tasks outside of the business is very low, the school blames the enterprise for demanding too high while the support of enterprises for students is not effective, receiving students to practice is only formal but not really for you to do like a real employee do how do you get the practical knowledge and skills. And the story “Blame” goes around so that the most disadvantaged are the students after graduation.

The rate of students after graduation does not find a job or a very high level of industry. Wander, observe, chat with students, and ponder how to change this is not possible overnight, the fact that most students graduate to meet the real work outside the business. It is only the result of many reasons that come from 3 sides of The school – Business – Student.

But the biggest reason is from students. Looking at the way you study, the attitude that you learn and feel yourself far away from the enthusiasm of the teachers, can’t just blame the students. Both schools and businesses have limitations, making the output of the students when graduation is not as expected. The training program from the school lacks practicality and is difficult to update to keep up with the development of technology, the teachers in the school themselves are also not trained to update and update practical knowledge. But before waiting for changes from external factors, students themselves have to change themselves first, just as before waiting for the wind to change direction, please take the initiative to adjust the sail like someone has once said.

Sitting confidently with the students, there are still a lot of friends in 3 years and 4 years, but really have not figured out clearly how you are going to graduate, what you will do, just imagine a general industry In addition to the fact that you have some work like this, the other and the school you do is suitable for you. The high rate of students before choosing a major is not a lot of understanding about their study, just choose to study it for reasons that their parents choose, relatives choose instead, choose to study it for safety, graduation It is easy to get a job without fear of unemployment, choose to study that industry because I like the industry but fail to study, so I have to study this industry, or I don’t know which branch to choose…

There are many people who really don’t know what they like. What do they want to do? And worse, studying that subject halfway, but not knowing that they will study this subject to apply it to work outside of reality. In their heads, they are still learning to take the exam or studying to get a high score for the degree that it is a little bright, then graduate to apply for a job easily. It is from the reason that you do not identify your goals or determine the wrong objectives “Learning to do what?” So the study has many coping characteristics, not actively learning, only learning the ones What the teachers taught, but did not learn more extensive knowledge, did not even grasp the basic knowledge that the teachers conveyed, there are still many situations of sleeping during school hours, going to school. playing or sitting in a classroom where “the soul is twisting the branches” …

Then there are those who pay more attention to studying, better understand the knowledge of the teachers and learn quite well, but when they graduate, in a short time they quit or change jobs, why? Because you don’t really understand what businesses they need from you, you think you are good at learning, good knowledge of you, holding a good degree being out of school is Okay, you’re imagining a ” Very pink” life await you behind the degree and the university gate, but alas! A completely different scenario “Unbelievable” it happened to you. ” Why are they still not using me after a short time? Why do they pay my salary so low, not equal to a friend who doesn’t study selling coffee along the road? “. And what has happened has come, once again you change jobs, then a few more times, or this time you switch to another career.

I also studied Automotive Engineering, which was also like you and quite well aware of studying while still in school and not inferior to friends in studying because “If they have I can do it, can I do it? If you haven’t done it yet, it means that you haven’t really tried yourself, ”and then the study results have been very good, but alas, after graduation, there are many other things in the school. Then there are things that I understand the principle but do not do but in reality, the practical skills are too young, when I graduate, I work like a buffalo, but no salary, only allowances, even not happy like the time i was a student (“going out” and still having family money provided), and most of the first 2 years of school, my friends dropped out of their careers by 60-70%. But with the love of the smell of oil, with the passion of technology and with a clear OBJECTIVE I have overcome those difficulties and become one of the few remaining people in my class according to the “Career This lubricant ”after 7 years of graduation. Now, in the position of corporate executive and also directly working in the field of training, recruiting personnel, interviewing recruiting new graduates who have missed them, think again of themselves I was years ago. Can’t blame them but they need a lot of programs to guide their consciousness, need a lot of effort from them, in self-learning to improve their own capacity development, to meet the capabilities that businesses require in their personnel.

So what does a business they need from a staff member, or in other words, do they evaluate 1 employee through what factors?

Their enterprises rated employees with only 1 word “Competence” so how do you understand the capacity?
We are not unfamiliar with this noun but really understand it, it is probably not much.

Competence is assessed through 3 factors: Knowledge – Skill – Attitude

In fact today, we find that most of the current training schools only focus on training about KNOWLEDGE for students and that is the reason why students in the automotive industry We go out of the way to get a job after a few years so low.

But when you are a competent person, what is it to judge you and your colleagues more than anyone when both are competent?

People use the scale of competence, called “Level”:

upload_2017-5-24_21-59-46.png

In terms of KNOWLEDGE aspect: You are the automotive engineer, you have been taught and you have knowledge of automotive systems, but to what extent are your knowledge

Level 1: You KNOW about those systems, you were talking about it, you read the documentation about it but didn’t really understand it.

Level 2: UNDERSTAND it, you can explain the operating principle of that system, understand the structure, specifications, circuit diagrams, location … but when you remove it If you fix it, you can’t do it. (Students in our automotive industry often stop at this Lever)

Level 3: You already know about it, UNDERSTAND it and you can apply that knowledge to real work, or in other words you have done it, (Experience factor is assessed at this Level – that is how long it takes you to work). However, you already understand the engine system or ABS … how it works and you can disassemble, check its repair pan in the actual car but you can’t analyze it, explain why it is so corrupt or called the “Problem Analysis” ability, you only follow habits, experiences or sometimes luck.

Level 4: You have done it, you have fixed the problems of that system and you have the ability to ANALY it, which can explain why it is so corrupt or can be given most likely of the problem (If a phenomenon like this could be due to A, if such a phenomenon could be caused by B …)

Level 5: You have the ability to GENUINE, which means that besides this system on Toyota, you can KNOW-UNDERSTAND-DO and ANALYSIS the same system on other cars like Hyundai, Honda, Kia, Ford , BMW, Mer, Audi ……

Level 6: You have the ability to CREATE, which means you are very knowledgeable about the system in the car and you have the ability to Analyze the pros and cons of that system then you can design, create more optimized products and systems, operate more efficiently than old parts and systems, (Note: it must be improved, not reversed).

Now that you have located your “Competence”, what level is it? Seeing myself still have to train myself more to become a competent person, to meet the requirements of the business already?

Wish you soon have a plan to sharpen your development to become a capable person to contribute your intelligence to building economic and social development, bringing value to yourself, helping more people and more successful.

Dear !
