Why do Vietnamese people like drinking?

2.9 billion liters is the beer production in Vietnam in 2013, Vietnamese people have been classified as the beer drink powerhouse in the world. Why do Vietnamese people drink so much?

* Mr. Nguyen Van Thien (Director of TL Company, Ho Chi Minh City):

A little bad, but a lot of benefits

Actually, I never thought about drinking much or drinking a lot, but I was drinking quite often. This habit has been formed many years ago, while carrying plastic cans to line up to buy Saigon beer in difficult times.

In my youth, I could have fun with 10 liters or even beer cans for a drinking game. Now old, I only vowed about 10 bottles with my friends. You understand each other still love me. They said, “The boss plays hard, really.”

Lift up because of work, but mostly still cup with friends. Less times will sit 2-3 times a week. Every week is good, meeting this occasion will sit 5-6 times.

Occasionally traveling away from home, I also miss the familiar brothers and pubs, and perhaps also remember the glass. When I was an employee, I also used to get a chance to drink with leaders, so I understand that my subordinates are just the same. The problem is that I hold the balance for good dignity, do not benefit.

Health? Well worry. I also have parents and wives and children to care about. But I think alcoholism is new, but beer is not so bad. I have been drinking for more than 20 years, my health is still serious.

Honestly, it is difficult to go to work today without foam beer. Partners do not like, opportunities are not, you do not understand yourself. The drinking party in my company is all brothers. We make our own schedules every month to sit together for at least a few times. I understand them. They love me, close to me. Harm is a little bit strong, but the benefits are many.

* Mr. Nguyen Tran Duy (office staff, Hanoi):

Most societies are like that

Saying alcohol indiscriminately leads to illness, danger is clear, there is nothing to discuss. But what if you don’t drink? Please, maybe I will be very hard to work. That is all. My boss has my dear, I care about my new seat. If the boss doesn’t ask, I have to know the thing, know how to relate well.

I do not drink, stand apart, how to have relationship, sympathy, opportunity. People can flatter the boss. Wear them. I just thought it was an opportunity to get close and understand each other. So who is right, who is wrong?

In fact, my agency has a number of brothers who study abroad and do not know how to raise glasses this way, they gradually leave or must leave. One can blame this. My boss just said that these guys don’t know how to live, arrogant, don’t know on the bottom. Did they take themselves out of the ranks, but did anyone eliminate them?

It’s obvious that drinking alcohol is also expensive. But it costs one to get three, to get ten. Refusing to invest today how to get the future. My wife at first regretted it, but now only laughs. Both understand each other to live, so they have a chance. What does that have to be ashamed of? Most societies are like that. I am kind to people, people are kind to me. That’s all.

* Mr. Nguyen Huy Quang (Director of Legal Department, Ministry of Health):

No one is sanctioned.

Provisions on alcohol taxes, prohibiting alcohol during lunch, prohibiting public officials from drinking alcohol during office hours … have previously been available, not to the National Policy on the Prevention of Harm Alcohol use (newly signed by Prime Minister on 12-2 – PV) only. But I still think that implementation and implementation work are problematic.

Just go to work in the provinces, the mountainous and remote areas are seeing wine from breakfast, “irresistible wine” that our country invites to wine is the “pressing” culture.

Many times when going on business trips, the commune officials only had 15g in the afternoon but their mouths were still covered, their faces turned red, what would the work efficiency be? In the city, everywhere there is a beer yard, many of them are civil servants who have been punished.

I think that if you want to well control the harmful effects of alcohol, you must chain the existing regulations, inter-branch coordination and most importantly, the role of the heads of each agency and the People’s Committee chairmen at all levels, is sense of law compliance and the health of every citizen.

The amount of Asians is far behind Westerners, so the effects of alcohol such as cirrhosis and then liver cancer, are mental health disorders or traffic accidents related to alcohol. The increase is very dangerous in recent times.

In Viet Duc Hospital, doctors have calculated 8% of traffic accidents in this hospital related to alcohol. Having a National Policy on the Prevention of Alcohol Abuse Prevention, I consider the beginning of a campaign to move towards the Law on Alcohol Abuse Prevention in Vietnam.
